an introduction

I'm always puzzled about what you're supposed to write in a first blog post other than an introduction. It would just feel rude to head straight into some random topic without first explaining who you are and why you're here. So even though it's generic and boring, I feel I should introduce myself.

Hello. My name is Miriam. I am a nineteen year old Irish student currently in my second year of studying Medicine in Dublin. I've been planning on starting a blog for a while, mainly just so I have a soapbox to rant on. I don't particularly mind if anyone reads what I have to say. I would like it if they did but really I'm quite happy talking to myself. My father is obsessed with blogging. Perhaps it runs in the family.

My college course takes up a lot of my time and energy, and it plays a big part in my life, however thankfully I do have other interests. I'm a bit all over the place really, I get strangely envious whenever I hear somebody is interested in something that in which I never had any interest, and I'll dabble in something for about fifteen minutes because I think it sounds cool and hipster (my obsession with being hipster will soon become apparent. I like to think that since I openly admit to trying to be hipster, I'm actually not all that ridiculous though in actuality it probably makes me all the more ridiculous. Maybe that's hipster in itself!) But mainly, I love crafts- knitting and crochet and sewing, I love baking, I love dresses (and other items of clothing, but largely dresses), especially vintage ones. You could say that I'm basically a 1950s housewife on the inside, though outwardly I tend to be a bit of a raging feminist- maybe not raging. Not extreme. But that's a topic for another day.

Anyway if you're reading this, this blog is mainly just going to be my platform for talking about, well, everything. Dresses and feminism and all the rest of it. I said it was a soapbox, and it will be. I've always expressed myself better in writing than in speech. Plus, people get bored of me talking. I have an annoying accent.

That's about all I have to say, for now. I'm going to try blog every day- it'll definitely be more like once a week. Or even less. Who knows? Let's find out.
